To keep up with network development trend, we take the initiative to establish online platforms, for example, the mobile app of Hong Kong International Jewelry Manufacturers' Show, JE Instagram and Pinterest, breaking through the geographical limitation and tighten up connection.

Our quarterly magazine JE integrates with the times and invites professional image consultants to change its style and revolutionizes its shooting, luminance, pantone and font. Through a breakthrough in magazine layout and shooting style, Hong Kong jewelry designs are upgraded to another promotional tier.

Our official website has been revamped. We have also set up a Facebook account and a "Hong Kong International Jewelry Shopping Festival" WeChat page to draw attention. Furthermore, we have added games in our WeChat page to attract attention.

Hong Kong International Jewelry Manufacturers' Show added 3 pavilions, Taiwan, Israel Diamond Institute (IDI) and the International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA), offering broader product categories for buyers to merchandise under one roof.

We cooperated with UK bloggers, Adorn Insight (www.adorninsight.com) Ms. Maia Adams and Juliet Hutton-Squire, who write articles about Hong Kong's latest jewelry trend for us. The first article Rubies Rule highlighted products from over 10 local jewelry manufacturers and the passage was put on the website of Adorn Insight. This is the first step for Hong Kong jewelry designers to have cross platform promotion. The content was also found at our official website and Facebook page, we will keep cooperating with the 2 bloggers.

Hong Kong International Jewelry Manufacturers' Show 2014 is a huge success! Booth number breaks through 1,000, the exhibitor recruitment is overwhelming with more than 200 companies on the waiting list even though the entire hall is completely open. The 4 days' show featured 659 quality exhibitors from 17 countries & regions, occupying 1,074 booths. This represented an 11% increase from 2013. Moreover, the show has gained UFI recognition, proving that it complies with the highest international standard in such fields as exhibition scope and number of exhibitors & visitors, indicating the excellent quality of the show.

To encourage jewelry designers to have innovations from time to time, our Association organized "Buyers' Favorite Jewelry Design Competition" to acknowledge their efforts. Over the years, the Competition has gained much support from numerous local designers and jewelry industry players. To encourage more designers to join, the Competition will go international to expand the vision of local designers and make more exchange opportunity for local and international designers. The application will open for jewelry designers all over the world and rename "JMA International Jewelry Design Competition" accordingly. It is believed that more exquisite jewelry designs will participate in the Competition, giving local designers more chance to exchange design ideas.

Our Association obtained the ISO 9001 certification, proving that we conform with all the requirements of ISO in the provision of local exhibition organizing services, project management of overseas exhibitions organizing services, provision of membership services for our members including training, publication and ATA carnet.

Funded by the HKSAR Government and supported by CreateHK, our Association organized Hong Kong's first summit in jewelry industry in 2012: "World Jewellery Industry Development Summit - Hong Kong". Other than the government, the Summit also gained support from a number of jewelry pioneers, renowned local and overseas jewelry industry players, designers, as well as famous brand CEO highlighted the important issue in jewelry industry development: Hong Kong jewelry industry is facing inheritance problem. Owing to the shift of Hong Kong jewelry industry production line to Mainland China, manpower shortage is found in manufacturing, marketing & sales and management levels, few youngsters enter jewelry industry, resulting in a manpower gap.

Hong Kong International Jewelry Manufacturers' Show 2011 was a huge success with nearly 20% expansion of the number of booths to 700 compared with the previous year.

"Brand Development & Publication Committee" held the "Branding Forum" in Hong Kong International Jewelry Manufacturers' Show 2011 to analyze the effect of branding and how to establish a brand (including market positioning, product design, marketing and product distribution), the challenges in establishing a brand and the prospects of jewelry brand.

First edition of "Miss Jewelry Hong Kong" pageant has been launched during show 2010. Through this campaign, we have successfully draw attention from target visitors.

With the financial support from the "Innovation and Technology Fund" of the Government of HKSAR and support from The Gemmological Association of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Article Numbering Association, HKJMA and Hong Kong Productivity Council aim to develop a "Jewelry e-ID System" by adopting advanced encryption and reading technologies.

HKJMA and the Chamber of Commerce for Jewelry & Precious Metal Industry of All-China Federation of Industry & Commerce co-organized the 1st "China Jewelry Manufacturers Brand Awards".

With the financial support from the Government of HKSAR under the "DesignSmart Initiative's Professional Continuing Education Scheme", and sponsorship from the Gemmological Association of Hong Kong, HKJMA developed a training program. This program is to train the inexperienced designers to master jewelry designing and traditional handicraft gem-set jewelry making techniques, as well as to take up digital jewelry craftsmanship to turn a concept into visually appealing and craft attribute rich object.

First time to organized the China Hong Kong Pavilion for participated in " JCK Las Vegas 2006 ".

With the financial support from the Government of HKSAR under the "DesignSmart Initiative's General Support Scheme", and support from the Gemmological Association of Hong Kong, HKJMA organizes the "2005/6 International Precious Jewelry Design Innovation Competition plus Jewelry Design Creativity and Jewellery Technology Conference and Forum". Besides, HKJMA had successfully applied for an additional amount of funding for organizing the "World's Jewelry Design Masters, Strategists & Leaders Forum" in the project.

HKJMA was the host of the CIBJO, The World Jewellery Confederation Annual Congress 2005, an international event which attracted over 160 delegates from 29 countries attended the Congress.

With the financial support from the Government of HKSAR under the DesignSmart Initiative's Professional Continuing Education Scheme, and sponsorship from the Gemmological Association of Hong Kong, HKJMA will develop "Jewelry Design and Digital-Craftsmanship Training Programme" to Enhance Jewelry Industry Design Manpower Competence on Gem-set Jewelry Design and Appraisal, Craft-making and Manufacturing.

Invited by the Invest Hong Kong to join the CEPA EXPO & FORUM "Promotion Week for China, Hong Kong & Macao" in Beijing, to share the successful experience of jewelry industry.

Invited by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council to join "Zhanjiang & Yangjiang Mission" which was lead by the Chief Secretary for Administration HKSAR Mr Donald Tsang, during the mission we studied the business opportunity at the western part of Guangdong province in China.

With the support from the Government of HKSAR under the "Professional Services Development Assistance Scheme", HKJMA has developed a continuing professional training program for jewelry designers, as well as other jewelry executives.

HKJMA was re-appointed as the Vice-Chairman of the 'Professional Validation Council of Hong Kong Industries'.

As requested by the Trade and Industry Department, the 'Hong Kong Business Community Joint Conference' had submitted valuable comments regarding the policy on "Processing Industries in Mainland China". Another letter was given to Mr. Henry Tang to urge the HKSAR Government to improve the business environment and overall competitiveness of Hong Kong industries.

Due to the outbreak of SARS, Swiss government banned any participation of exhibitors from Hong Kong just before the Basel/Zurich Fair opened. HKJMA, together with other related organizations, went to Consulates & Embassies of Switzerland in Hong Kong, to negotiate the compensation of Hong Kong Jewelry Manufacturers.

A representative office was setup in Guangzhou, in order to provide better services of what the jewelry industry needed.

HKJMA met with Mr. Henry Tang, Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology for immediately assistance of the prohibition of 'China Hong Kong Pavilion' to part pate in the JCK Las Vegas Show 2003.

'Hong Kong New Design Website' (www.hkje.com) was established. This slide show e-catalog provided the latest HK design to global jewelers.

'The 11th Hong Kong International Jewelry Manufacturers Exhibition' was organized. This year, 217 exhibitors participated the show together with more than 16,000 visitors. Compare with last year, the number of visitors increased more than 100%.

HKJMA was appointed as a Vice-Chairman of 'Professional Validation Council of Hong Kong Industries'.

To help Hong Kong jewelry employers to seek for right employees, an online job recruitment website (www.jobs.jewelry.org.hk) was launched.

'New Buyers' Credit Information Exchange Scheme' was launched to help members to minimize the risk of open account, avoids the potential bad debts from the new customers.

As China entered WTO, HKJMA had formed a delegation to Guangzhou Sub-Branch of People's Bank of China in order to get the most updated policy of gold & jewelry aspects.

On behalf of 'Hong Kong Business Community Joint Conference', a letter was sent to Mr. Chan Wing-kee, Chairman of Small and Medium Enterprises Committee to express the comments of industries towards the SME Funding Schemes. It was suggested that the Trade and Industry Department should improve their support to small and medium enterprises in order to increase the overall competitiveness of Hong Kong exports.

It was the first time the HKJMA Pavilion was organized at "Luxury China, Shanghai, China".

‘The 5th Buyer's Favorite Jewelry Design Competition' was organized by HKJMA. The 5 categories of the competition are Ring, Bracelet/Brooch, Earrings, Necklace and the special group 'Free Style Design'.

'Jewelry Business Directory plus HKJMA 14th Anniversary Year Book' was produced as a traditional 400 pages 'Printed Version'. Our book was also transformed into 'CD ROM Version'.

On behalf of 'Hong Kong Business Community Joint Conference', a proposal for 'Reforming Hong Kong trading and industry promotion strategies' was presented to Mr. Henry Tang, Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology.

HKJMA and Hong Kong Jewellery & Jade Manufacturers' Association jointly organized the first annual dinner, 'International Jewellers' Gala Evening', with the slogan was 'Partnering for New Industry Strength'.

Regarding the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) for China Made Jewelry, 'Hong Kong Business Community Joint Conference' sent a letter to MOFTEC, Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology and the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Hong Kong SAR, respectively. We hoped that the appropriate parties could negotiate with the U.S. Federal Government for granting 'GSP' to jewelry products from China origin.

Stepping into a new age in the 10th Anniversary, organized by HKJMA, the name of this Asia's biggest year-end jewelry event was given as 'Hong Kong International Jewelry Manufacturers Exhibition' (HKIJME).

To help our members to reduce their cash flow difficulties, HKJMA established a 'Gold Purchase Finance Service', the first service of its kind in the world! This service allows members to obtain real gold (with a maximum value of $HK 2 million) without standby L/C or any collateral.

'Debt Tracking Service' was launched. The aim of this service is to mitigate the risk of doubtful debts from overseas and local buyers.

'HKJMA Golf Team' was established and around 30 members were recruited.

The HKJMA permanent office was moved to 'Unit G, 2/F., Kaiser Estate Phase 2, 51 Man Yue Street, Hunghom, Kowloon, Hong Kong'.

It was the first time the HKJMA Pavilion was organized at 'Birmingham Spring Fair, UK'.

A study tour to the Shanghai & Zhuji pearl farming zone was organized and attended the Shanghai symposium on 'Impact on Jewelry Industry after China Joining the WTO'.

A delegation to visit the Guangdong Huadu Municipal Government was organized.

The largest HK Pavilion was organized at JCK Las Vegas Show.83 exhibitors with 104 booths were participated at the show.

In order to promote the 'Parametric-Based Jewelry Component CAD Database' to the industry, HKJMA organized some courses and seminars with Hong Kong Productivity Council. We also introduced two softwares 'SolidWorks 2000' & '3D Studio VIZ' to fit our database.

A study tour to Kumming was organized.

HKJMA became a member of the 'Professional Validation Centre of Hong Kong Plastics and Metal Industries Centre'. The centre provided a life-long learning, improving the professional standard of employees in the field, and enhancing the status of Hong Kong plastics and metal industries.

HKJMA and the Hong Kong Business Community Joint Conference representatives interviewed Mr. Tung Chee Hwa, Chief Executive of HKSAR. During the meeting, we handed in our "Position Paper" to Mr. Tung. It was very encouraged that many ideas were adopted by the Government eventually.

'The 3rd Buyers' Favorite Diamond Jewelry Design Competition' was organized by our Association and co-organized by Jewellery News Asia Magazine and September Hong Kong Jewellery & Watch Fair. It was sponsored by the Gemological Institute of America (Hong Kong). The competition was divided into 6 categories: fine jewelry set, ring, necklace, earrings, bracelet, and brooch.

The 8th Hong Kong Jewelry Manufacturers' Exhibition was held at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre, in which over 200 exhibitors participated and more than 12,000 visitors were registered at the show.

HKJMA started to provide the 'Nickel Content and ReleaseTest Service', which met the European Union standard.

The Professional Validation Centre of Hong Kong Plastics and Metal Industries Centre launched the programs of the 1st Honorary Fellowship and Associateship. Our Founding Chariman, Mr Frank Tang was one of the Honorary Fellowship Awardees and 10 members got the Associateship Award.

With the support of the Industry Department of the Hong Kong Government's financial, HKJMA was granted HKD1.6 million for the 'Development of Parametric Based Jewelry Component CAD Database'.

A cyber product-souring centre (www.hongkongshowroom.com) was established for helping international buyers to search the information of Hong Kong Jewelry Manufacturers.

'International Confederation of Jewellery, Silverware, Diamonds, Pearls and Stones (CIBJO)' recognized HKJMA as Hong Kong representative.

The 11th Annual General Meeting & Anniversary Dinner Reception was held in Holiday Inn Golden Mile on 16th July 1999. We were honored to have invited Mr. Francis Ho, J.P. Director-General of Industry from Industry Department Hong Kong Special Administrative Region as our Guest-of-honor.

'Mainland Affairs Committee' was formed in order to build up close connections between Hong Kong jewelry manufacturers and official bodies and trade associations in Mainland China.

'Technology Development Committee' was formed in order to develop new and advanced jewelry manufacturing technologies.

'Education and Training Committee' was formed to provide a professional enrichment and training to members.

'Hong Kong Business Community Joint Conference' was established, which is composed of 18 Hong Kong manufacturing associations. Its mission was to promote the prosperity of the Hong Kong business community. HKJMA was elected to be the Voluntary Secretariat.

Three HKJMA pavilions were organized at the Middle East Road Shows 'Arab Jewellery & Watch Show', 'Jewellery Arabia' and 'MidEast Watch & Jewellery Fair''. These road shows last nearly for one month.

The 7th Hong Kong Jewelry Manufacturers' Exhibition was held. There were three breakthroughs at this show:

  • Intentionally scheduled the show in November, which was closer to both Christmas and Chinese New Year selling seasons. Smart jewelry traders could replenish their stocks as they would get what the consumers' current needs and their favors.
  • Advanced registered buyers could enjoy an extraordinary 4-star hotel package at US$29.9 per night through HKJMA.
  • Organized a "Closeout Corner" where exhibitors sold out their stocks at a very low price by the end of the year.

HKJMA became a member of 'Metals Training Board of Vocational Training Council', aimed at organizing and providing more training programs for members to equip themselves to face the challenges ahead.

The 6th Hong Kong Jewelry Manufacturers' Exhibition was held at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre. More than 9,000 visitors ware registered at the show.

'The 1st Buyers' Favorite Diamond Jewelry Design Competition' was organized. It aimed at encouraging local diamond jewelry designs and arouses the interests of world wide buyers in Hong Kong jewelry industry.

The number of members increased to 197 at the year end.

The Opening Ceremony of the Hong Kong Jewelry Industry Technology Centre was held.

'Express Carnet Guarantee Service' was newly launched by the Association. This service required much less time, money and manpower than the old one. For example: its interest rate was only 0.12% interest rate; it took only an hour to process, which saved nearly two days time. In addition, the maximum guarantee amount increased to HKD 10 million per member.

The largest HKJMA Pavilion was organized by the Association at the Indonesia Jewelry and Watch Fair, Jakarta, Indonesia.

HKJMA was appointed to be the sole agent of the Hong Kong and China pavilions in JCK Jewelry Shows.

The quarterly catalogazine, "Hong Kong Jewelry Express" was first published for the promotion of local jewelry industry and products to world-wide jewelry traders.

HKD 4.48 million was granted by the Industrial and Technology Development Council for the development of the new manufacturing technology 'Platinum Electroforming'.

A 50% increase in sales was recorded in the 3rd Hong Kong Jewelry Manufacturers' Exhibition which was held at the HKJMA office.

The Hong Kong Jewelry Manufacturers' Delegation was organised again to visit Beijing and the officials of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, the China National Industry and Commerce Federation, the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office, the Ministry of Foreign Trade & Imp. & Exp. Corp Economic Cooperation, the Beijing Customs and Excise Department, the Gemmological Association of China and the China National Arts and Crafts Imp. & Exp Corp were met.

The first delegation was organized to visit Beijing and was warmly welcome by the State Council Hongkong and Macao Affairs Office, Ministry of Foreign Trade & Economic Cooperation, China National Arts & Clafts Import & Export Corp., China National Pearl Diamond Gem & Jewellery Import & Export Corp and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, etc.

The first self-organized jewelry fair, Hong Kong Jewellery Manufacturers' Exhibition, was held at the HKJMA office to assist members to explore local jewelry market.

An Ad-Hoc Fund Raising Committee was formed to plan and execute for the purchase of permanent office.

An Extra Ordinary General Meeting was first called to discuss the issue arisen from the two September HK jewelry shows.

The 6th Annual General Meeting was held. In the meeting, due to the fund raising campaign for permanent office purchase, it was resolved to add the honorary life membership together with the life membership.

The 3rd September Hong Kong International Jewelry Show was jointly organized by the four associations and HKTDC at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The 5th Annual General Meeting was held, and resolved to add the new membership category as Associate Member and to increase the number of General Committee Members to 33.

September HK International Jewelry Show was jointly organised by the 4 Associations and HKTDC again at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

It was the first time that the HKJMA Pavilion was organized at the First Jewellery Arabia in Bahrain, Middle East.

It was the first time the HKJMA Pavilion was organized at the First JCK Jewelry Show in Las Vegas.

The four Associations and HKTDC, jointly organized the September Hong Kong International Jewelry Show at the Kowloon Shangri-La Hotel.

It was the first time the HKJMA Pavilion was organized at the International Jewellery Tokyo, Japan.

The Government invited the Association to join the Metals Committee of the Industry and Technology Development Council.

The four Associations, the Hong Kong Jewelers' & Goldsmiths Association, including the Hong Kong Jade & Stone Manufacturers Association, the Hong Kong Jewelry Manufacturers' Association and the Diamond Importers Association jointly invited the HKTDC to organize the Hong Kong Pavilion for September HK International Jewelry and Watch Fair since 1992.

It was the first time that HKJMA Pavilion was organized at the Taipei International Jewelry and Watch Exhibition.
